Replication Methods & Datasets

Many economists distribute technical notes and datasets related to their published works. These documents explain how the authors “clean“ original datasets, how estimation techniques are applied in practice, how econometric tests are carried over, which steps they have followed to estimate particular demand-side or supply-side parameters, or to extract estimatable equations starting from a theoretical model.

A first source of similar documents is given by economists private web-pages: datasets used by the following authors are available at the links below.

Two other sources of datasets and methodological notes are "Economic Growth Resources" at the University of Bristol, and "Center for International Development" at Harvard University. In particular the following pages provide the datasets listed below.

At "Center for International Development -> Datasets" you can find data used in:

Barro, Robert J. and Jong-Wha Lee, "International Data on Educational Attainment: Updates and Implications" (CID Working Paper No. 42, April 2000)

Bloom, David E., David Canning, and Pia N. Malaney, "Demographic Change and Economic Growth in Asia" (CID Working Paper No. 15, May 1999)

Gallup, John L. and Jeffrey D. Sachs, with Andrew Mellinger, "Geography and Economic Development" (CID Working Paper No. 1, March 1999)

Hausmann, Ricardo, Lant Pritchett and Dani Rodrik, "Growth Accelerations" mimeo.

Larson, Donald F., Rita Butzer, Yair Mundlak, and Al Crego. 2000. "A Cross-Country Database for Sector Investment and Capital." The World Bank Economic Review. 14:2, 371-91.

Vincent, Jeffrey R., "Latin America Natural Resource Data" (May 2001).

Note: this last dataset includes data on fossil fuels for Latin-American Countries.

At "Economic Growth Resource -> datasets" you can find datasets and further links.
