Fairness, Reciprocity and Voting

We investigate how concerns about inequity-aversion and reciprocity affect the outcome of collective decision-making and the democratic process. In particular, we are concerned with the following issues:

• How do voters' concerns about fairness or reciprocity affect the behavior of politicians?
• How do reciprocal motives influence the decision-making in a committee?
• How do preferences for fairness impact on the ability of poor democratic societies to escape a poverty trap?
